Republic of Benin, like several countries of the world, is very affected by climate change impacts. Thus, it is necessary to act urgently. It is now time to take urgent action and find innovative, realistic solutions to tackle climate change effectively.
This why last year from 28 to 30 October 2016, CRADDES NGO successfully organized the first Regional Conference of Youth on climate change in Benin (COY12-Porto-Novo). Then 120 young people from 6 West African countries attended to this wonderful event.

Also this year before COP23 in Germany, the Centre for Research and Action for Sustainable Development and Fulfilment of Societies (CRADDES NGO) will organize the 13th Regional Conference of Youth on Climate Change in Benin (Regional COY13 Abomey-Calavi). The event will gather 200 young leaders from Benin and at least 20 others countries around the world to ignite discussions, build capacity and showcase local and regional solutions to tackle climate change and related issues.

  2. Protecting biodiversity and forests in Africa: challenges and opportunities
  3. Panel discussion on real causes, the consequences of climate change in developing countries and practical solutions of young people: Case studies from 4 countries in Africa and Asia.

Objectives of the Regional COY

GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Facilitate the organization of events marking the 13th edition of the Conference Of Youth on Climate change in Benin (COY13 / COP23 in Benin) to empower and strengthen young people and youth movements in order to assume responsibilities and to take action against the effects of climate change.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  1. Conduct a visit of knowledge and experiences sharing on an ecological site with all participants of Regional COY13 – Benin.
  2. Organize an advocacy meeting between a 13-year-old delegation with the Beninese Minister for Climate Change and / or the Mayor of the city of Abomey-Calavi on climate (COY 13 & COP23).
  3. Organize at least 2 broadcasts (Radio and TV) on the Regional COY13 Benin event & COP23 of Bonn in Germany
  4. Organize specials and great events marking the 13th edition of Conference Of Youth on Climate change in Benin (COY13 / COP23 in Benin) with 200 youth leaders.
  5. Contribute to understanding and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals related to climate change (SDGs 6; 7; 12; 13; 14 & 15).
  6. Showcase best practice projects by youth on climate change.
  7. Develop and publish a youth position paper ahead of COP23.

LCOY Benin

  • CRADDES NGO is pleased to inform you that following the “Call for application for participation in COY13 / Regional Conference of Youth on Climate change in Benin” , we received more than 600 applications including 93 females and over 100 foreigners from 25 different countries around the world.
  • The official ceremony will be opened by the Beninese Minister of State for Planning and Development.
  • At least one side event will be implemented on this topic “Climate change innovating decent work for youth A road map for implementing SDG goals 8 in West Africa”. This side event will be facilitated by Dr Prince Israel Orekha Executive director Connected Advocacy for Empowerment and Youth Development Initiative (West Africa regional coordinator youth employment decade in Africa).

The local team of COY13 Benin

Centre for Research and Action for Sustainable Development and Fulfilment of Societies (CRADDES NGO) is the main organiser of the Regional COY13 in Benin.
